When I was younger, I traveled a lot.  I used to be just "Marti Jones" without the "Dixon" part.  I was making records and performing most of the time, and my job (OK...I had fun, too...) got in the way of my painting.  I really never had the time to paint because when I came home in between gigs, I had to keep up with the current family drama and dirty laundry (literally.)  I don't play very often any more because my husband and I have a daughter, and one of us has to stay home so she can attend school and have some sense of stability in her formative years.  Now that she is an adolescent, she no longer requires our direct attention.  Since she spends most of her time in her room with the door closed (just like I did when I was her age), I found that I became the proud owner of...dare I say it?...time.  I no longer really care about the laundry and I try not to be involved in every single family drama, in order to fulfill my sincere need to paint.

My paintings speak for themselves as far as content is concerned.  I like to paint people and things that are alive.  I feel compelled to breathe life into the subject with light and movement.  I'm not interested in getting a photographic likeness, but rather the essence of character within.
